Finding joy in a sometimes chaotic atmosphere

By the sound of the title you would guess that I am about to write about life at my house...but no. Actually I am fulfilling part of my New Year's Resolution...the one about finding joy in my calling. So I wanted to document something that happened last week that made me chuckle.
If you are a blog follower of mine, you know that I have been in the Primary presidency for just over a year now. Well we have an ENORMOUS...make that GINORMOUS primary, so it can be a tough job keeping all of those little ones reverent. Well last week there were two little boys that were just egging each other on, so it became necessary for me to sit in between them. The following conversation occurred
Me: Asher, you need to sit still, fold your arms and be reverent (he kept fidgeting in his seat)
Asher: I just can't sit still....I have so many funny things going on up there (he was pointing to his head) and I just have to say them!

This child is six! I of course started laughing...it was just too funny, he then continued.
Asher: Did you know that in all my seven Christmas' I have NEVER gotten a lump of coal?! I must be such a good kid!

No wonder the child sitting next to him was laughing and being noisy! He kept me laughing the whole time I sat by him...I finally had to remove myself for distracting the rest of the primary. I needed to be put on timeout.
Thank you Asher for teaching me that I am not merely a disciplinarian to these children...it is OK to laugh and enjoy them too.

That's a really cute story! Thanks for your comments on my blog. You (and Chris too) will never know what an impact you made in my life. I love you to death, and I'm so glad we're still in touch! One of these days I'm going to have to hear this story you tell about me!

Don't you love what children say?!!! I am always amused by what my children say and that was one of my favorite parts of teaching Kindergarten. Kids say the funniest things! It makes you wonder what they must be thinking about in those cute little heads of theirs!!!

The reason I may never be a good mom is that I would laugh, all the time, probably at everything. :)
