A little bet

I am at my wits end, and when a person is at their wits end they do ANYTHING to find a solution to the problem. I know that my child will read this, so I will not go into too many details for fear that she will be forever mad at me and never speak to me again. Let's just say that she has discovered the male spieces, yep, that is right. Let me remind you that she is only a 5th grader. Well her teacher has contacted us about some letters that were being passed back and forth between her and another student ( a male one). In the letter she expressed interest in kissing. I was stunned! What happened to my sweet little innocent baby girl? My first impulse was to yank her out of school and home school her, but really will solve anything? So I came up with another plan....the bet.
The conversation went as follows
Me: Sienna why do you want to kiss a boy
Sienna: What?! I don't
Me: Then why did you write that in your letter to ......?
Sienna: Mom that was an April Fools joke!
(RIGHT!)
Me: Sienna you shouldn't even be thinking about that until you are old enough to date....which is 16.
Sienna: Whatever
Me: I want to make a deal with you... if you can make it to 16 WITHOUT kissing a boy then I will give you $1,000
Sienna: DEAL (said without ANY hesitation)
Me: No cheating on this, because I will know if you break your end of the deal
Sienna: How will you know?
Me: I'm your mom and I just will know. Now shake on it.
And with that our deal was sealed. I fully intend to uphold my end of the bargain and she seems pretty excited to uphold her end. (at least for now!)
I already have my speech prepared for the next time she likes someone, I will say to her "Sienna is he REALLY worth $1,000?"
Wish me luck!

lol what a great idea! Every child is different...having gone thru 4 teens already, and in the midst of one, I will tell you some of them were totally uninterested in "romance" and the opposite sex until later, while others were keenly interested--for those, I just pulled them in a little closer to me and tried to be the one they turned to when their hormones began raging. SO far, so good. $1,000. is alot of money...and sounds like a good motivator. Hang in there!

And my mom would say to me, "I'll give you $1,000 if you would JUST KISS SOMEONE!" :)

I love it!!!! What an excellent idea to at least curb the kissing until later. I think I might have to copy this idea to use with my girls. Thanks for the tip! Hey, when is our next dinner/lunch and who's in charge of this one?

Little Sienna?! Wow. I wish my mom would have made that bet, I would have been $1,000 richer!

I agree lady! Whatever it takes. Sean's mom gave them all $100 if they didn't kiss anyone. Sean lost of course.

aAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!! WHAT! Do I need to come over and give her the Daughter of God speach! It has been known to work wonders! I wish my mom would have paid me for not kissing boys! Sienna doesn't realize how cool of a mom she has!

This was bound to happen...Sienna is a pretty girl and of course boys would want to kiss her! But she will learn and know that it isn't worth it too early! That bet would've been nice for me...maybe I would've waited till i was sixteen! Tell her not to be stupid like me and kiss a boy before 16...yuck!!!LOL...good bet Jenny, I would keep my end if I was Sienna!

No way!!!! I wish my mom had offered me $1000. I would have held out for a few more months!

Wow, sounds like a good deal. I would be rich if I had that deal. Better yet, no kissing until she is engaged!
Anywho, we will help you enforce the bet because it is a great example to us moms who have those fun roads still in the future.
xoxox
Also, happy 1 year anniversary!

I remember my mom trying to pay someone to kiss me at my 16 bday party. I think it was Ken S****. You might remeber him and of course his sister Jen, anyway, you know the way I went after 16 (not too bad, only a little). Even if she waits until 16....look out 16 and one day....

Jenni, I am a friend of your mom's and saw this post and wanted to tell you that my dad did this type of thing with my sister and it worked like a charm. She was totally boy crazy, so he bet her that she would get married before she was 21 and finished with school....the stakes were $1000. :)
